FAQ for church Intensive

 

Will I get to interact with Francis Chan if I come?

It is Francis’ desire to share his experiences and heart.  However, his schedule varies due to travel and ministry.  While his hope is to spend some time with each class, there is no guarantee. Francis has been heavily involved in the forming of this program and in selecting who would do the teaching and leading.


how long is the application process?

Once we have your application and references, we work hard to inform you of your acceptance within two weeks, but sometimes it may take longer if we are lacking information or if we have a surge of applications. This process can also be delayed if there is incomplete information on your application or if the references provided do not respond. 


Schedule for the 4-Day Intensive:

Sunday: 6:45am-4pm

Monday: 9am-5pm

Tuesday: 9am-5pm

Wednesday: 9am-5pm

what does the schedule look like?


Can I bring my spouse and/or kids?

Yes you can, however it will be up to you to figure out logistics and plans for your family while you are engaged in the program. We are unable to house families on-site.  Also we do not allow family members to attend the Church Intensive sessions unless they also have submitted an application and have been accepted. We encourage pastors attending the Church Intensive to have their wives also apply to come if they like. We do have a limited amount of spaces available, but have seen that it is beneficial for couples to come together. 


Should I rent a car for my time there?

It’s up to you.  It’s about a 15 minute drive from our class location to where we do outreach.  If you choose to not rent a car, you will be able to either catch a ride with someone else or order a Lyft/Uber when you aren’t able to get a ride. Class locations have limited, free street parking available, but we are unable to guarantee a parking space. Feel free to ask us more about this after you are accepted if you want to learn more about your options.


Can someone pick me up from the airport?

Unfortunately we won’t be able to accommodate airport pick ups. If you are not renting a car, we recommend taking a Lyft or Uber from the airport to your housing destination.


What is provided?

 

 

The schedule, class materials, and teaching are all included in the cost of the program. Transportation, food, housing, and other such items will be up to you.  We now have an onsite housing option as well as a couple of Airbnb options. We are able to help give advice on other items and recommend resources such as Lyft or Uber for transportation. 


What can I do to prepare for my time there?

Upon acceptance, you will receive a syllabus with material to go through.  This material (readings and sermons) will be discussed in the classes during your session.  In the meantime, please order the book Total Church by Tim Chester and Steve Timmis as it will be a part of the material we go through as well as will help you start preparing for what to expect during your time here.


We do not recommend booking any lodging before receiving an acceptance e-mail from us. We now have an onsite housing option as well as a couple of Airbnb options. Outside of that we suggest looking into Airbnb or VRBO options near the 94112 zip code. We are able to provide you with further options and information after acceptance. 

where should I stay?


We love when people come together to the Church Intensive! That being said, because we have limited spots for each term, we would ask that anyone wishing to join you would apply as soon as possible to get their application processed. If they wait until after you are accepted, we may run out of space for them before we can process them. Please note that each person must go through the same application process, regardless of whether or not they are a spouse, ministry friend, or co-leader. 

if I want to bring another leader with me, do they also need to apply or should they wait until after i am accepted?


There are many reasons you may not have heard back from us regarding your application. The most common reason for delays is that references provided have not responded to our inquiries. We do require at least 3 references, one of them being someone who has a pastoral role over you. Once references are received, your application is given to our pastoral team for review and decision. Once a decision is made, you are contacted. If you are certain all of your references have responded and are still waiting for a response, it could be an indicator that we have received an influx of applications. We assure you we will do our best to get you an answer as soon as possible as we know a lot of planning is required for you. Please bear with us in this process. If neither you nor your references have heard from us, you may want to check to see if your application was successfully submitted.  

i want to make travel plans, but i haven't heard back about my application. what do i need to do?


i was accepted, but something came up for me. Can i reschedule?

Due to very limited space, we are unable to meet most requests for rescheduling. In the event we ARE able to reschedule, you would lose your initial $150 deposit. Again, this is because we have limited space and each spot is valuable to us. Please also note that if the term you wish to attend is not currently on our website, it is not available. We will be updating the website consistently as new dates become available. 


We are always exploring options. As soon as we settle on a time and location for any off-site intensives, they will be made available on our website. We are sorry we are unable to provide any further information.

when will you be coming to an area near me?
